Traceability
Check the pack. Check the water.
Every batch we take in is written into one ledger and keeps the same code from arrival to counter. Enter a code and you get where it came from, the day we received it, the grades that were in it and the mortality we carried. Including the bad numbers, because a record you only publish on good weeks is not a record.
Batch lookup
Trace a batch
The code is printed on the pack label and on the box. The bare code works, and so does just the batch number.
Published batches, newest first
That code is not among the batches we have published. It may still be in the ledger: we publish a batch only once it is closed and cleared for release. Send us the code on WhatsApp and we will pull the full record for you.

Under reconciliation
The point of sale recorded more pieces sold from this batch than the batch was logged as receiving. That cannot both be true, so one of the two records is wrong and we are working out which. We are showing it rather than quietly correcting it, because a ledger you silently tidy is not a ledger.
Storage
Keep at 2 to 7 degrees Celsius, cup side down, under a damp cloth. Never in an airtight container and never in fresh water. An oyster that will not close when tapped is dead and should be discarded.
How the live window is worked out
Seven days from intake, held at 2 to 7 degrees Celsius. Live in shell oysters keep about a week refrigerated, and for tropical Crassostrea the Mexican standard NOM-242-SSA1-2009 sets seven days at or below 7 degrees as the ceiling. Derived from the intake date, not a figure recorded per batch.
These are real rows from our operations ledger, not illustrations. We publish a batch only after it is closed and someone has cleared it for release, so the lookup holds fewer batches than the ledger does. For a code that does not resolve here, message us and we will pull the full record.
WhatsAppThe ledger records what arrived, what it consisted of and what we lost. It does not yet carry a per batch depuration time or laboratory certificate, so this page does not show one. Those are recorded at the Tawau facility and we will publish them here once they are in the same ledger rather than claim them before they are.

The code
What a batch code says
A batch is one intake from one source on one day. The code is assigned on arrival and it does not change again.
- Batch 11 The batch number, in sequence across the whole ledger.
- OTV Ocean Tide Ventures. Every code we issue carries it.
- 04 The month the batch was received.
- 2026 The year.
Older batches use an earlier format, OTV, year, source code, sequence, as in OTV-2026-TW-09. TW is Tawau, ST is Setiu, MK is Melaka. Both formats resolve in the lookup above, so a pack printed under either one still works.
The standard
What a shellfish record is supposed to carry
Live bivalve molluscs move under a registration document in most regulated markets. The European rules are the most widely copied version of it, so we hold our own record against that list rather than against nothing. Here is what it asks for and where we actually stand.
Where the record stands
| Required by the standard | Our record |
|---|---|
| Gatherer identity and address | Recorded Sea Life Aquaculture at Tawau, named on every batch. |
| Species and quantity | Recorded Scientific name and piece count per grade, on every batch. |
| Date stamped on delivery and kept on file | Recorded Intake date is written when the batch row is opened, and the row is kept indefinitely rather than for the three months the rule asks. |
| Date of harvesting | Partial We record the date we take the batch in, which is not quite the same thing. Harvest date sits with the farmer and our partner and is not yet written into our row. |
| Location of the production area | Partial We can name the four contract sites we source from, but a batch is not yet tied to the single site it came off. |
| Purification centre and destination | Partial Depuration happens at the Tawau hatchery and destination is our chill room, both known. Neither carries an approval number here, because Malaysia does not run the same approval numbering. |
| Health status of the production area | Not yet Classified harvesting areas of the A, B and C kind do not exist in Malaysia the way they do in Europe, so there is no classification to quote. This is the real gap in the record and we would rather name it than pad it. |
| Laboratory result for the batch | Not yet Testing happens at the Tawau facility. It is not yet written into the batch row, so this page does not show one. |
Malaysia does not operate a classified shellfish harvesting area scheme comparable to the European one, so parts of this list cannot be met by anyone farming here yet. We publish the comparison anyway, because a record that hides its gaps is a brochure.
Custody
Where the record is written
A record is only worth what the weakest hand in the chain is worth. Each of these steps writes to the same batch row rather than to its own paperwork.
- 01
Intake
Stock arrives from Sea Life Aquaculture at Tawau, our exclusive hatchery and depuration partner. The batch row is opened on arrival with the source, the date and a count of every grade received.
- 02
Depuration and grading
Purging and grading happen at the Tawau facility before the stock moves. This step is not yet written into the batch row, which is why the page does not show a purge time or a certificate for it.
- 03
Chilled logistics
Our own distribution arm moves the batch on an unbroken cold chain. Losses in transit are booked against the batch, not absorbed quietly, which is why a mortality figure appears on the public record at all.
- 04
Every shift, every stall
Each stall shift opens and closes against a batch code. Pieces sold and pieces lost are logged per grade per night, and they aggregate back into the batch row automatically.
Why it matters
The test is not the good day. It is the bad one.
Traceability is easy to claim and only ever proven once, on the day something goes wrong. If a batch goes bad, or a customer reports illness, the question is how fast you can say exactly which oysters, from which water, went to which addresses.
Because every shift writes against a batch code, that answer is a query rather than an investigation. The same ledger also records our losses honestly, and some of them have been severe. We would rather publish a batch that carried mortality than curate a record that only ever looks good.
Come and see
Stand on the raft. Then decide.
Farm visits run daily from 11:00 to 17:00, rafts, hatchery, depuration tanks and chill room, finishing with oysters shucked in front of you.
